Many of the papers relate to evaluations of youth services, particularly Sure Start, at various local councils, including Cheshire, Waltham Forest, Beaumont Leys, Leicester, Liverpool and St Helens, Derby, Nottingham, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Norfolk, Northumberland, Salford,  Herefordshire, Bristol, Stockport, Tower Hamlets, Kent and Somerset. Also minutes of the Connexions Impact Study Project Management Group.

  • There are several collections with relevance to youth and community work: Centre for Social Action (reference D/050): papers of the Centre for Social Action which is based in the School of Applied Social Studies as part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at De Montfort University. The Centre supports and facilitates research, evaluation, training and consultancy in health, community work and social care. The collection includes articles, conference papers and reports authored by staff and students of the Centre; photographs of summer schools, conferences, CSA Board members, and workshops in Russia and Ukraine; leaflets and flyers advertising the work of the Centre; brochure “CSA Review 1994-1999”; newsletters; and correspondence and administrative papers, particularly relating to the running of training sessions and summer schools. National Youth Agency (reference Y/001): The National Youth Agency (NYA) was formally launched in October 1991. The NYA was responsible for the development of youth work curriculum and training development, the endorsement of youth and community work training courses, the accreditation of youth worker staff development policies, the dissemination of information about best practice, assisting with policy development, promotion of partnership working between the voluntary and statutory sectors of youth service, and securing a national focus for the support of youth work. The collection includes correspondence and minutes relating to the formation of the Agency; staffing and organisational reviews; strategies; policy reviews; liaison with the Department for Education; Joint Negotiating Committee for Youth Leaders reports; papers of the Initial Training and Education Panel; papers relating to the Council for Education and Training in Youth and Community Work; papers relating to aspects of youth work; papers of the global youth work steering group; speeches by Director Janet Paraskeva; and papers relating to conferences on youth services. Also papers of committees including the Executive Board, Management Committee, Education and Training Sub-Committee, Part-time Volunteer Education and Training Steering Committee, Education and Training Standards Committee, Joint Consultative and Negotiating Committee and Partners in Innovation Committee. Also papers of predecessor body the National Youth Bureau including Executive Committee minutes, papers and correspondence, Management Committee minutes and correspondence, and Finance and Staffing Committee papers. National Youth Agency library: Rare Books holds the former Library of the NYA. In the Library catalogue, look for the classification “National Youth Collection” and the location “Kimberlin Special Collections” Rural Youth Network (reference D/076): The Rural Youth Network was a national forum open to those working with youth in rural areas and aimed to establish a national arena for creative thinking on the specific issues facing youth in the countryside. The papers include newsletters, reports, policies, minutes of meetings, conference papers, articles and publications by RYN members.
