Description
  • ┆The scrapbooks contain a variety of cuttings from magazines which feature publicity head shots of movie stars, film stills, and postcards. Each cutting includes a handwritten label by Owen of the various actors' names (if the cutting does not include the star's name already). The scrapbooks include a mix of male, female and child actors from the period. Examples include: Shirley Temple, Jimmy Hanley, Clark Gable, Bette Davis, Carole Lombard, David Niven, Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford and many more household names from the period. Some cuttings have additional decoration added by Owen but for the most part you can see how they were cut out of the original magazine.
Administrative history
  • ┆A film enthusiast, Phyllis Beryl Owen (nee Stubbington) compiled these five scrapbooks during her teenage years in the 1930s.
